Accelerated Reader® (AR) is a computer program that helps teachers and librarians monitor a student’s independent reading practice. The young reader picks a book that is at his/her level and reads it at his/her pace. When finished, the student takes a short quiz on the computer that evaluates reading comprehension. AR gives children, teachers, parents, and librarians feedback based on quiz results. Educators use the information to help students set personal goals and continue to direct ongoing reading practice.
